Where are you originally from?
I grew up in Ridgewood and I’m a Jersey girl through and through. Early on as a model for Elite, I lived all over Europe but I eventually settled in NYC. I LOVED living in the city so when I had my first child and moved out, I was a little nervous about the transition. But I immediately fell in love with Montclair – it’s so diverse and there is such an amazing sense of community here. It’s also full Manhattan and Brooklyn transplants, so not only do I still feel close in proximity, but spirit as well :)
What is your career background and what inspired you to start your own company?
My first foray into fashion was as a model and it gave me incredible insight into the industry. I was hooked. So after college I moved to the commercial side and worked for high-end designers, managing sales and marketing. But it wasn’t until I became a Trend Consultant /Analyst for Peclers Paris, the leading agency in trends, style and innovation, that I felt like I found my niche. There I lead and inspired creative teams and helped them design product, from concept to market. My clients ranged from The Gap, J.Crew, Target and Nike, to Nine West, Microsoft, Pier One and Estee Lauder, among many others. We worked about 18 months in advance and it was at a time when trends were slower to evolve so I was always ahead of the curve. Over time though, I realized that what my clients wanted most was my personal insight, opinion, styling and pulse on the zeitgeist. So I decided to start my own company. Today, in addition to working with brands, I work with individuals and advise them on everything from clothing to beauty to interiors. It’s a lifestyle approach to styling and I now refer to myself as a Curator of Style.
Why should everyone come to Charcy Evers?
Today we are moving away from being trend focused and are more lifestyle focused. So whether you are a company or an individual, your brand identity is your most important asset. For companies, I sift through the information overload and help them determine the trends that have staying power and can be leveraged for their specific market. With individuals, I help them define their own personal aesthetic and translate that into their wardrobe, home and overall lifestyle. I feel that style isn’t something you can put on, aspire to or even wear. It’s how you feel. I work closely with my clients and really get to know them so I can bring out their own unique and individual style. Because we all have it, it’s just a matter of tapping into it and cultivating it. So that’s what I think sets me apart from others and why my clients keep coming back. And even become good friends. It’s my methodical and unique approach coupled with a very personal and thoughtful relationship.
Any trends you’re loving at the moment?
I am LOVING the focus on MENSWEAR in the market at the moment. Finally, we are waking up to the fact that men have become sophisticated shoppers with discerning taste and this has been a huge shift. As a result there are great new designers and CUSTOM options out there. Yes, there is a whole street wear vibe too but let’s face it, the suit is never going away and men are dressing up again. When it comes to suits, fit is essential and that is why CUSTOM is the way to go. For women, I am thrilled with the return of the wide leg pant. They flatter every figure and instantly create a long, lean and elegant silhouette. It’s a refreshing departure from all those skinny jeans out there. And I’m a little obsessed with culottes at the moment!
We always like to end with this question, what in life brings you joy?
Joy is the moment I have transformed a woman’s style and she begins to feel more confident, empowered and alive. She becomes her best self. It’s why I do what I do.
